Job SummaryManages all system components of the UTA rail infrastructure (light rail, commuter rail, and streetcar). Directs subordinate managers in daily operation and administration of rail traction power substations, overhead catenary, and signal + control systems. Develops strict standard operating procedures with emphasis on proactive preventative maintenance activities for all UTA rail systems. Conducts reviews and checks regularly to verify the SOPs are being followed. Develops and maintains a long-term plan and schedule that incorporates best industry standards, asset management practices, and vendor recommendations for proper proactive maintenance of the significant investment in the UTA rail system. Assists in developing major systems projects for budgets and planning. Assists and may oversee selection of contractors to perform work. Models positive employee engagement by conducting all labor and employee relations activities consistent with UTA goals and mission, operational and strategic business objectives, UTA core values, and the UTA Way. Minimum QualificationsEDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Electronic Engineering or relatedEXPERIENCE: Seven years management in design review, maintenance, testing, and implementation of rail systems. At least two years in project management including budgeting, scheduling, change order, and contract management. Experience working in a union environment with working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements preferred.Must have a valid Utah driver's license with no more than 4 moving violations in the past three 3 years; cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.This job requires regular and predictable attendance.
Knowledge:

  • Strong working knowledge of signal systems, Traction Power Substations (TPSS), Overhead Catenary System, and TVM industry procedures and industry trends
  • Federal Railroad and Federal Transit Administration rules and guidelines
  • Electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems theory for signals, TPSS, Overhead Catenary System, and TVM reviews
  • Electronic, electrical and mechanical test, safety, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Engineering, operation, and maintenance policies
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Document filing, storage, and retrieval methods
  • Office automation equipment such as fax, computers, scanners, digital cameras, and copiersSkills:
